Corona Virus Quarantine Day #258: Candy House Craziness: December 5, 2020:
Today our day started with 5 year old basketball. I think it’s funny that our 5-year-old can play basketball but our 10 year olds can’t and high school students cannot have parents in the stands. That’s a different level of craziness!
Took the masks down for a quick team picture. These boys are so stinking sweet.
When we got home I promised the kids we could do our candy houses as our Advent activity today. So we read our card: “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.” Matthew 18:20. Make Gingerbread houses as a family today.
So when we do this activity we share (per usual). I do NOT want 5 candy houses on my counter. So Finley and Cooper are partners, Ellen and Fiona are partners and Fletcher and Mommy are partners. We play Christmas music and have a lot of fun.
I have to say the candy assortment this year was a little out of control. I think we over did…
That’s a lot of candy.
It turns out it was a good thing we had so much candy because our kids want to cover every square inch of their candy house. It’s pretty crazy how creative they are. Fletcher was a little bossy in the direction we headed on our house but overall, we got along pretty well. Fiona and Ellen giggled so much it took them the longest to complete and Finley and Cooper were very focused on their overall plan.
The highlight of their house was their epic basketball court/game going on. The bears were even guarding each other, they had the teams color coded and they even thought to give one of the bears a basketball. I was impressed. Their Santa sleigh came in a close second for their coolest feature. The basketball court has been a feature of the past few years but it continues to get better.
See…all the giggles! So many giggles. Can’t say I’m upset about it. I love when these two laugh together, it is, as it should be! Sisters and best friends (mostly).
The highlight of the girls house was definitely their elaborate roof scheme and of course their sport court. The girls elected to put a volleyball court on their house (a first for us in this process). I appreciated the fact that they even remembered to have a libero on the court which they had in a different color jersey (gummy bear). It’s pretty obvious these humans are coach kids!
In the first picture Fletcher was bossing me around while pointing at me with his middle finger…if only he knew! I had to control the OCD in myself when decorating a house with a 5-year old. He was pretty particular but all things considered I appreciate his vision. Look at those patterns on the side with Santa’s sleigh. Also, Rudolph was pulling our sleigh, complete with a big red nose. Fletcher even thought to park cars in front of the house, something I would not have considered. We had a lot of fun!Just getting started! Mommy even made it in a picture! Woo-hoo!
After gingerbread house making we headed to our home away from home…the barn. Soccer, basketball and volleyball were the sports of the day and we had a blast. Fletcher tired of the barn and wanted to go to Scott and Shelly’s (our neighbors) because “I haven’t seen them in forever.” He didn’t think we could go empty handed so he went in the house and got them some of our left over candy. He was in his happy place while there because he got to see his favorite neighbors, his farm animal friends and he got to “work.”
Mr. Scott was teaching Fletcher to shovel horse poop. I’ve never seen anyone so excited to shovel shit in my entire life.
He even got to ride on the horse!
Paisley the pig is like a dog. She can even sit for a treat. Fletcher was wildly impressed. These two and Mommy got to go out and do their Christmas shopping for their siblings. Oh my goodness…it was so much fun. I think they both had word quota they had to hit as they both talked NON-STOP. They were so excited and we had so much fun. They loved finding gifts for their siblings (Finley had Fiona and Fletcher and Ellen had Fletcher and Cooper). They must have thanked me 20 times for taking them to Chic-fila and letting them get a peppermint milkshake. We rarely get this small one on one time together and it was so awesome!
This sweet girl got to have her hair done and see a light show. She was pretty excited!
It’s been a day in the household! Lots of fun had by all!
